Audience evidence
Availability changes by weekday, region, school and work patterns, events, season, format, and acquisition source. Day and time-block ratings preserve that evidence as an ordered score instead of claiming one universal peak.
Creator boundary
An audience peak the host cannot prepare for or sustain is not workable. The availability window removes unusable starts, while planned duration removes candidates that would finish after the creator’s limit.
Weighted fit
The default ranking gives day evidence thirty-five percent and average time-block evidence sixty-five percent. The heat map shows broad weekly fit; candidate cards show starts that also satisfy the full availability window.
Live test

Build ratings from evidence you can label
Start with past streams that share the format you plan to schedule. A gaming room, interview, performance, casual chat, and language-learning session can attract different attendance patterns. Grouping all formats into one hourly average may hide the window that matters for the next broadcast.
For day scores, compare several recent occurrences with similar promotion and duration. A five can mark the strongest repeated day, a three can mark a workable middle, and zero can mark a day you cannot use or a day with consistently weak evidence. The scale is ordinal: five ranks above four, but it does not claim a precise twenty-five percent advantage.
For time scores, use two-hour blocks because they are easier to rate from limited evidence than twenty-four individual hours. Consider unique viewers, average concurrent viewers, watch time, relevant engagement, returning viewers, and host observations. Do not combine every metric into one number without deciding which outcome matters for the stream.
An audience poll can supplement reports, but stated availability and actual attendance differ. Ask viewers about a specific time zone and format. Save the poll date and sample size. Give observed attendance more weight after enough comparable sessions exist.
How the weekly ranking is calculated
candidate fit = day rating / 5 x day weight + average time-block rating / 5 x (1 - day weight)
The result is multiplied by one hundred for the visible fit score. Candidate starts are tested every thirty minutes inside the creator availability window.
A stream can cross more than one two-hour block. The calculator samples each thirty-minute portion of the planned duration and averages the corresponding time ratings. A two-hour stream beginning at seven in the evening uses ratings from the six-to-eight and eight-to-ten blocks. A four-hour stream can average three blocks when its start falls between block boundaries.
When candidates have equal fit, the ranking favors the start that leaves more unused time before the availability window closes. If that is also equal, earlier days and earlier starts appear first. This tie rule makes the result stable when several cells have the same ratings; it does not claim that earlier is inherently better.
The heat map uses the day score and the single two-hour block score for every cell. It is a broad planning view rather than a duration-adjusted candidate score. Use the cards for exact start ranking and the map for patterns across the full week.
Create a timing test plan in six steps
- Name the stream format and primary outcome. Decide whether the timing test will be judged by qualified viewers, watch time, retention, comments, follows, or another recorded measure.
- Rate the seven days. Use comparable past sessions and mark unusable days with zero.
- Rate the twelve time blocks. Translate reports or audience research into a simple zero-to-five order.
- Set creator availability. Include the full live duration and leave separate preparation and recovery time outside the field.
- Rank the candidates. Save the top slot and at least one alternative rather than testing only one time forever.
- Run comparable broadcasts. Keep format, promotion, duration, and content promise close enough that timing remains the main changed factor.
Worked example: why Friday evening wins the first test
Assume Friday and Saturday receive day ratings of five, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday receive four, Monday and Tuesday receive three. The six-to-eight and eight-to-ten evening blocks receive time ratings of five. The host is available from five in the afternoon until eleven-thirty at night and plans a ninety-minute broadcast.
With the default thirty-five percent day weight, a Friday start at six, six-thirty, seven, or seven-thirty can receive a full fit score when every sampled half hour remains inside five-rated time blocks. Saturday can tie because it has the same day rating. The tie rule puts Friday first because it appears earlier in the week order.
A start at eight-thirty uses part of the eight-to-ten block and part of the ten-to-midnight block, which has a rating of three. Its average time score falls, so it ranks below the earlier evening options even though the day remains strong. A longer three-hour stream would include more of that lower block and could shift the top start earlier.
The example does not prove that Friday at six will attract the largest audience. It identifies a slot that matches the entered ratings and availability. The host should test Friday and Saturday across comparable weeks, then replace the ratings when actual results show a stable difference.
Treat time zones as part of the input, not a footnote
The timing model needs one planning clock. Use these four checks before assigning activity scores or copying a candidate window.
The live clock first tries to infer local time from the visitor’s network region and falls back to the device setting when lookup is unavailable. Travel, a VPN, a carrier, or a wrong device clock can mislead, so compare it with where the host will actually broadcast.

Daylight-saving changes can move the relationship between regions. Save the date range attached to audience evidence and review scores near a clock change; a stable host-local hour can become earlier or later for viewers elsewhere.
When availability passes midnight, the ending time belongs to the next day while candidate cards keep the starting weekday. A Friday late-night stream can finish Saturday, so review recovery and the next day’s commitments separately.
Run a timing experiment without moving every other variable
Choose two or three candidate windows with similar fit scores. Use the same core format, approximate duration, promotion lead time, title quality, and opening promise. Record the selected outcome before each test. Repeat each slot enough times to reduce the effect of one unusual topic, guest, technical issue, holiday, or outside event.
Compare both rate and volume measures. A later slot may bring fewer unique viewers but stronger average watch time. An earlier slot may bring a larger audience with lower completion. The “best” choice depends on the stated purpose, not whichever metric has the largest raw number.
Update ratings slowly. One excellent Friday should not automatically turn every other day into a zero. Look for repeated differences and save notes about promotion, collaboration, content, and competing events. If evidence remains mixed, keep two regular windows and let viewers learn both.
Stop a timing test when the cost is too high. A slot that harms sleep, work, school, family responsibilities, safety, preparation, or content quality is not a strong operational fit even if its audience score is high. Lower its day score or exclude it through the availability window.
